TOM ALEXANDER
COMPOSER/SCREENWRITER
Tom Alexander is a composer, writer and broadcaster. What might not be instantly apparent, is his line of work was built on a foundation steeped in motion pictures. His family’s involvement in cinema dates back to the early silent era when his grandfather built nickelodeons in Northeastern Pennsylvania not long after the turn of the 20th century. When the advent of sound arrived, his theatres evolved, and Tom’s father and uncles began working in the family business during the golden age of cinema.
By the 1970s, even before he was a teenager, Tom too began helping out at his family’s theatres. It was here where he watched and “listened” to movies. “I was moved as much by the score of the film as the images on the screen. Even as a little kid,” Alexander says. “I’d watch and listen constantly. Movies and music was my life. As I grew a little older I had music of all kinds coming at me. It all just inhabited me. And I poured myself into it.”
He’s composed for TV commercials, sports programming, television and films, including “Philly Flash,” and “Stonerville.” His music for “The Centenarian” earned him the Cosmic Film Festival award for best score.
